"Capitalism Sucks Art Show"
November 1 - December 1, 2019
An installation by Sandy Sanders
New Zone Gallery
22 W 7th Av Eugene, OR

In 2013 I performed an exhibit on the sidewalk outside the San Francisco Art Market fine art trade show event. This street art performance/installation was created to counter and reframe the premises for making and displaying art in relation to the existing commodity-based driven art world of the 21st Century. With humor, simplicity, straight forward communication and thoughtful reflection on the nature of "free" and "not free", this work is created with the purpose of engaging ordinary people in thinking about what is truly important in life rather than what is monetarily valuable.

The (12) paintings of things that are FREE are indeed FREE for pick up at the end of the show via Gallery signup list. (For this 2019 show, should the first person signed up not show on Monday Dec. 2 between 12 - 6pm I will call in order those others who signed up to arrange pick up.) The (12) paintings of things that are definitely NOT FREE are priced for sale on hand written price tags attached with the average price of the object depicted, usually a very expensive amount, but nevertheless gladly accepted in exchange for the painting. (In the contemporary art world many of these prices have been equaled or exceeded in the absurd bubble art casino of the 1%.)

The (32) 5x7" photographs are $27 ea., a true bargain. So for every pocketbook there is an opportunity to experience the culture of FREE, the culture of rediculously EXPENSIVE capitalism, and the culture of CHEAP.

In this riches or bust Neo-Gilded Age, the bottom 95% of society is being prosperity abandoned. Handmade art has become something most people only see in museums or galleries. And the museums are no longer free. In most cases, the idea of having a beautiful or meaningful work of art in one's living room has disappeared for all but the top 5% and especially the 1%. This installation pushes aside the idea of monetary value and explores the value of Free Culture as a value replacement over that of the capitalist profiteering free-for-all that plagues humanity in 2019.

Please come visit the installation at New Zone Gallery in the month of November and participate in public dialog to envision a world where free takes precedence over debt.
